Slot Summary

In 2017, Barcrest released Golden Chief with a wager-dependent structure: changing the stake can change more than the payout size. Expanding chief symbols alter the active lines, while its bonus games shift play between reel spins, a cash trail and picking prizes. Those rule changes define the game.

How It Plays

The starting line count and symbol awards depend on the selected wager. Golden Chief therefore requires attention to the active paytable, because different betting settings change the rules used to calculate wins.

When an expanding chief participates in a win, it fills its reel and increases the active line count. A random symbol upgrade can also replace a lower-paying symbol with a higher-paying picture symbol.

Bonus & Free Spins

Cash Canyon uses a wheel to move along a trail toward larger prizes. Totem Riches instead asks you to pick prizes, with a collect result ending the picking sequence.

During free spins, the chief wild can expand both vertically and horizontally. This changes how much of the reel field it covers, extending its effect beyond the single-column expansion used in ordinary play.

How this works

Each simulated spin either misses or returns a win drawn from a log-normal distribution, with the hit rate and spread set by the slot's volatility tier (Medium). The model is calibrated so the average return equals this slot's published RTP (96.02%), with wins capped at its top multiplier (1,000×).

This is a simplified, parametric model of the game's math — not its real paytable. It exists to make the house edge visible over many sessions, so the numbers above are averages across thousands of runs, never a forecast of one.

This is math, not a prediction. Real sessions vary wildly, and no strategy changes a game's built-in house edge. Play for fun, set limits, and never bet more than you can afford to lose.

01Why are different RTP figures listed for Golden Chief?

Golden Chief has wager-dependent play settings with different theoretical returns. Its listed RTP values include 94.12%, 96.02% and 98.14%, so the selected configuration matters.

02Can you select Golden Chief's bonus game?

The bonus selector determines the awarded feature. Landing scatters does not give you a free choice between the cash trail, picking game and free spins.

03Does Golden Chief always play with 100 lines?

No. The active line count depends on the wager and expanding wild behavior; 100 lines describes an available configuration rather than every ordinary spin.
