How the Money Train series built its bonus engine
Money Train began in 2019 by fixing the franchise around a 5x4, 40-payline Wild West slot with a multiplier-led bonus game and bonus purchase. Relax Gaming then grew the line by making the bonus progressively more complex, first through persistent specialist symbols and later through energy collection, mode selection and a larger grid.

Money Train 2 was the breakout mechanical expansion: hold-and-win respins and feature-specific symbols raised the maximum from 20,000x to 50,000x. Money Train 3 doubled that ceiling to 100,000x and added energy collection, symbol swapping and selectable free-spin modes, making resource management more important inside the bonus.
Machinery retained between sequels
- Setting: trains, outlaws and industrial Wild West imagery frame every main release.
- Screen logic: the first four entries use 40 paylines, with the numbered sequels retaining a 5x4 frame through the third game.
- Bonus focus: multipliers, respins and collected symbols create most of the risk rather than the base game alone.
- Direct access: bonus purchase remains part of the numbered line.
Money Train Origins: Dream Drop took a side route in 2023, reducing the listed maximum to 10,000x while adding a progressive jackpot and pick feature. Money Train 4 changed the main sequence more sharply: a 6x5 Pay Anywhere grid, colossal reels and a 150,000x maximum replaced the established 5x4 structure.
Turning points in the train line
- Money Train: established the 40-line bonus game and a 20,000x maximum.
- Money Train 2: introduced the hold-and-win identity and raised the ceiling to 50,000x.
- Money Train 3: added energy-driven choices and moved the maximum to 100,000x.
- Origins: Dream Drop: redirected the formula toward a progressive jackpot.
- Money Train 4: replaced fixed paylines with Pay Anywhere and expanded the ceiling to 150,000x.
Money Train's influence comes from treating the bonus as the main product. Each major sequel adds another decision, collector or persistent modifier, but the useful dividing line is simple: the early games refine a 40-payline hold-and-win format, while the fourth numbered release rebuilds that pressure on a larger grid.
