Hugo series: one character across changing slot structures

Play'n Go's Hugo series turns the same cartoon troll into a franchise of deliberately different slot formats, moving from fixed paylines to multiway reels and then a 7x7 cluster grid. The character and comic-adventure code stay recognizable, but each release rebuilds the screen and the way wins develop.

The 2016 Hugo uses a 5x3 layout with 10 paylines, medium volatility, free spins, multipliers and symbol substitutions, capped at 10,000x. Hugo Goal compressed the format in 2018 to a 3x3, five-line sports game with high volatility, respins and expanding wilds. It is the clearest departure in scale, replacing the original adventure bonus structure with a compact football-themed loop.

From reel modifiers to cluster collection

Hugo Carts restored a 5x3 screen in 2021 but moved toward multiway play, mystery symbols, reel modifiers, random wilds and random multipliers, raising the listed ceiling to 25,000x. Hugo Legacy reset the design again in 2023 with a 7x7 cluster-pays grid, cascades, symbol collection, transformations and a bonus wheel. Its medium-volatility profile and 3,000x maximum show that the series is not a straight climb in prize size; Hugo functions as a recurring character through which Play'n Go tests fundamentally different win systems.
