Age of the Gods series: Playtech's mythology formula changes shape

The Age of the Gods series is Playtech's Greek-mythology franchise, built on gods, feature rounds and a progressive jackpot identity that later branches translate into fixed-jackpot and collector systems. These slots retain the Olympian setting while changing how players reach the main prize event.

The 2016 pair established two distinct risk models on the same 5x3, 20-payline base. Age of the Gods Furious 4 combined sticky wilds, selectable free-spin modes and a 50,000x maximum win, while Age of the Gods used pay-both-ways wins, random wilds and a 10,000x ceiling. Both made the jackpot part of a conventional reel slot rather than a separate game format.

The Olympian chassis

  • Character code: each entry assigns a god, hero or mythic figure to the feature package.
  • Bonus logic: free spins, pick rounds, wheels and respins provide different routes away from the base game.
  • Jackpot structure: progressive prizes define the early line and the Fire Blaze branch, while later entries also use fixed jackpots and cash collection.
  • Changing grids: the 5x3 format remains common, but wheel, 3x5 and 5x5 versions prevent the franchise from becoming one repeated slot.

The clearest format break came with Age of the Gods Spin A Win in 2021. Its wheel and pick-object play replaced the standard reel emphasis and carried a 97.5% RTP. The next substantial turn was Age Of The Gods: King Of Olympus Fire Blaze Xtreme in 2024, which moved to a high-volatility, 25-payline hold-and-spin model with symbol collection, a prize wheel, bonus buy and a 2,000x maximum.

The later games split rather than follow one escalation path. God of Storms Fire Blaze combines walking wilds with hold-and-win play at medium volatility; Gold Trio rotates the familiar grid to 3x5 and adds a cash collector, sticky symbols and reel doubling; Age of the Gods: Amazon Wild expands to 5x5 and concentrates on walking and expanding-wild respins. The connecting idea is no longer one reel model, but mythology wrapped around a jackpot or feature-led event.

Where the formula turns

  1. The 2016 pair: fixed the 5x3, 20-payline foundation but separated a 50,000x feature-heavy version from a 10,000x pay-both-ways version.
  2. Spin A Win: turned the franchise into a wheel-and-pick game rather than another standard reel sequel.
  3. King Of Olympus Fire Blaze Xtreme: introduced the high-volatility hold-and-spin branch with bonus access and a prize wheel.
  4. The later branch: distributes the formula across walking wilds, cash collection, reel changes and larger grids.
